In 2007, state air qualities were updated, and this meant trouble for many who relied upon the trucking industry to fulfill shipments for their small business. One family that saw the impacts of this were the Semler\u2019s, whose family vineyard suffered due to the regulations preventing their fleet of trucks from performing their regular duties.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Semlers, which own and operate a military-electronics business as well as a vineyard, knew it was a matter of time before the green initiative hit the trucking industry, too. But at 24 years of age,<\/span> Dakota Semler <\/span><\/a>grew tired of waiting and decided to take the initiative himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Semler found a co-founder and a way to materialize his inspiration with <\/span>Giordano Sordoni<\/span><\/a>, who together realized that software, battery technology, and electric motors have evolved to the point where electric trucks could be a cost-competitive and viable option.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thor Trucks<\/b><\/p>\n

Semler and Sordoni founded their startup, <\/span>Thor Trucks<\/span><\/a>, in 2017. The two founders, along with an engineering team pulled from L.A.\u2019s electric vehicle industry, <\/span>recently released the ET-One<\/span><\/a>, a sleek and electric semi that can travel 300 miles on a single charge and haul 80,000 pounds of cargo. The genius of Semler and Sordoni centers around their ability to listen to listen and discern the local and regional needs of the trucking industry. \u201cThe reality is,\u201d says Semler, \u201cthe majority of the Class 8, heavy duty truck market is more local and regional.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Another impressive feat of the ET-One is the time it takes to recharge\u2014a mere 90 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Trucking Industry\u2019s Green Future<\/b><\/p>\n

In an industry that has run mostly on diesel, Semler and Sordoni are not the only ones that are working to capitalize off of the general public\u2019s fascination with environmentally friendly initiatives. <\/span>Tesla<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Volvo<\/span><\/a>, two huge names in the sector of automobiles, are both working and have already released their green-friendly semis. But what separates Thor Trucks is not their dream team of Silicon Valley tech-heads, but their desire and familiarity with the unique wants and needs of the drivers within the trucking industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe typical Silicon Valley software approach is to come into a new space and say \u2018hey, everyone in this space is stupid and no one\u2019s thought of this clever way of doing things that we thought of\u2026\u201d says Sordoni.<\/span> But the team at Thor Trucks is taking a different approach<\/span><\/a> and is interested in hearing how they can improve their already impressive designs.
